Expected Weighted On-base Average
The wOBA a hitter's contact, walks and strikeouts deserved.
What it actually is. Expected weighted on-base average: contact quality on every batted ball, plus the walks and strikeouts, on the same scale as weighted on-base average.
What a scout reads off it. The single fastest way to spot a player due for better or worse luck, because it includes the outcomes the hitter controls completely alongside the ones he only influences. A sixty-point gap in either direction over a full season is worth acting on.
