Expected Batting Average
The average a hitter's contact deserved, from exit velocity and launch angle.
What it actually is. Expected batting average: what each batted ball has historically become, given how hard and at what angle it was hit, added up over a season.
What a scout reads off it. It is a hitter's results with the fielders and the shifts taken out. The gap between actual and expected is where luck, speed and defensive positioning live, and a large gap in either direction usually closes.
