Winning Percentage
Winning percentage: wins out of games decided.
What it actually is. Winning percentage, wins divided by games decided, written without the leading zero the way baseball has always written a rate.
What a scout reads off it. Over a full season it is the standings; over a month it is noise. A club's run differential predicts its future record better than its own record does, which is the most useful counterintuitive fact in following a pennant race.
