Passed Ball
A catchable pitch the catcher misses, and a runner moves up.
What it actually is. A pitch the catcher should have handled that let a runner advance. Charged to the catcher.
What a scout reads off it. The line between a wild pitch and a passed ball is the scorer's opinion, so the split between the two says something about the press box as well as about the battery. Blocking is a real and coachable catching skill and this is the crude public measure of it.
