Line Drive Rate
Share of batted balls hit on a line.
What it actually is. The share of batted balls hit on a line.
What a scout reads off it. Line drives fall for hits far more often than anything else, which is why a high line drive rate and a high batting average on balls in play usually arrive together and are not luck. The scorer classifies batted ball type by eye, so the number is noisier than it looks.
