Loss
The pitcher charged when the other team takes the lead for good.
What it actually is. Charged to the pitcher who allowed the run that put his team behind for good.
What a scout reads off it. The same caveat as the win, in reverse, and it is worth being blunt about: a losing record on a bad club tells you about the club. Nolan Ryan lost 292 games and is in the Hall of Fame; the seasons where he pitched brilliantly for teams that could not score are most of the reason the number is that high.
