Strikeout to Walk Ratio
Strikeouts for every walk.
What it actually is. Strikeouts divided by walks.
What a scout reads off it. One of the most stable indicators in the game, which is why it is useful: it settles down faster than earned run average and it stays put. A pitcher whose ratio is holding while his results are bad is a pitcher to bet on.
Where the lines are. Three to one is a very good ratio and five to one is exceptional.
