Ground Ball Rate
Share of batted balls hit on the ground.
What it actually is. The share of batted balls hit on the ground.
What a scout reads off it. Ground balls are the safest contact a pitcher can allow: they almost never leave the park and they turn into double plays. A ground ball pitcher with a bad earned run average is often an infield defense problem rather than a pitching one.
