What it actually is. Games back: how far behind the division leader a club sits, counting each win and each loss as half a game.
What a scout reads off it. The half games appear when two clubs have played a different number of games, which is why a team can be a half game back and still be ahead in winning percentage. Late in the year, games back matters less than how many head-to-head games are left.
