Defensive Runs Saved
Runs a fielder saved compared with an average fielder.
What it actually is. Defensive runs saved: an estimate, from video review of where every ball went, of how many runs a fielder saved or cost compared with an average fielder at his position.
What a scout reads off it. Read it in runs and remember roughly ten runs make a win. A plus-fifteen defender is a win and a half of glove, which is worth more than most of the offense people argue about.
How it lies to you. It needs about three seasons to settle down. One year of any defensive metric is a hint, not a conclusion.
