Walks Per Nine Innings
Walks per nine innings.
What it actually is. Walks scaled to nine innings.
What a scout reads off it. The standard shorthand for control, and control is the skill that separates prospects who arrive from prospects who do not. A pitcher who cannot find the zone does not get to show anyone the rest of it.
Where the lines are. Around two walks per nine is excellent, three is fine, four and a half is a pitcher whose margin is gone.
