2020 College World Series
Canceled. The only year since 1947 with no champion.
What happened. The 2020 season was stopped on March 12 with most teams about seventeen games into it, and the tournament was canceled outright rather than postponed. Eighty tournaments have been scheduled since 1947 and seventy-nine of them have a winner.
Why the year is still in the list. A gap in a year sequence reads as a data error and sends anybody using the page looking for the missing row. A row that says canceled reads as history. The count on this site is eighty tournaments and seventy-nine championships, and every total worked out from the archive knows the difference.
What it did to the two seasons around it. Every player on a 2020 roster was granted an extra year of eligibility, which pushed rosters over their limits, and the effects of that ran through college baseball for four seasons. The transfer portal traffic of the early 2020s is partly this.
