2016 College World Series
Coastal Carolina over Arizona at Charles Schwab Field Omaha.
What happened. Coastal Carolina won the 2016 College World Series, beating Arizona in the final, under Gary Gilmore. It was played at Charles Schwab Field Omaha, Omaha.
Where it sits. Coastal Carolina has won the College World Series once, and this is it. Arizona had already won 4 of them, most recently in 2012, and has not won one since. Won the whole thing on the program's first ever trip to Omaha. They came in as no. 2 regional seed at 55-18.
What the tournament looked like that year. Same path, but the championship becomes a best-of-three series. That format ran from 2003 through present.
The ballpark. Opened as TD Ameritrade Park and renamed in December 2021 after Schwab bought Ameritrade. Same building.
