2008 College World Series
Fresno State over Georgia at Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium.
What happened. Fresno State won the 2008 College World Series, beating Georgia in the final, under Mike Batesole. It was played at Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium, Omaha.
Where it sits. Fresno State has won the College World Series once, and this is it. Georgia had already won one, most recently in 1990, and has not won one since. The lowest seed ever to win it, and by general agreement the best story the tournament has produced. They came in as no. 4 regional seed at 42-29.
What the tournament looked like that year. Same path, but the championship becomes a best-of-three series. That format ran from 2003 through present.
The ballpark. Sixty-one tournaments. The reason Omaha means what it means.
