1996 College World Series
LSU over Miami (FL) at Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium.
What happened. LSU won the 1996 College World Series, beating Miami (FL) in the final, under Skip Bertman. It was played at Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium, Omaha.
Where it sits. The 3rd of 8 for LSU. Their second in 3 years, so this was a program at the top of the sport rather than a program having a season. Miami (FL) lost this one and won its own in 1999.
Warren Morris, and one swing. LSU 9, Miami 8. Two out, bottom of the ninth of the championship game, and a second baseman who had not hit a home run all season hit one over the right field wall. It remains the only walk-off home run to end a College World Series.
What the tournament looked like that year. Two four-team double elimination brackets, the winners meeting in a single championship game. That format ran from 1988 through 1998.
The ballpark. Sixty-one tournaments. The reason Omaha means what it means.
