1988 College World Series
Stanford over Arizona State at Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium.
What happened. Stanford won the 1988 College World Series, beating Arizona State in the final, under Mark Marquess. It was played at Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium, Omaha.
Where it sits. The 2nd for Stanford, and still the last one. Back to back: they had won it the year before as well. Arizona State had already won 5 of them, most recently in 1981, and has not won one since.
What the tournament looked like that year. Two four-team double elimination brackets, the winners meeting in a single championship game. That format ran from 1988 through 1998.
The ballpark. Sixty-one tournaments. The reason Omaha means what it means.
