1979 College World Series
Cal State Fullerton over Arkansas at Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium.
What happened. Cal State Fullerton won the 1979 College World Series, beating Arkansas in the final, under Augie Garrido. It was played at Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium, Omaha.
Where it sits. The first of 4 for Cal State Fullerton. The next came in 1984. Arkansas has never won one. Reaching the final is as close as that program has come.
What the tournament looked like that year. Eight teams, one pure double elimination bracket. The classic Rosenblatt format. That format ran from 1950 through 1987.
The ballpark. Sixty-one tournaments. The reason Omaha means what it means.
