1948 College World Series
Southern California over Yale at Hyames Field.
What happened. Southern California won the 1948 College World Series, beating Yale in the final, under Sam Barry. It was played at Hyames Field, Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Where it sits. The first of 12 for Southern California. The next came in 1958. Yale has never won one. Reaching the final is as close as that program has come.
What the tournament looked like that year. Same shape, double elimination playoffs. That format ran in 1948 only.
The ballpark. The first two, and Yale lost both of them with George H. W. Bush at first base.
