Pitch Count Rules
The cap on pitches in a day, and the rest days it costs.
How it actually works. At the Majors level a pitcher aged 11 or 12 may throw 85 pitches in a day, and the required rest climbs in bands: one day off after 21 to 35 pitches, up to four days after 66 or more. A pitcher who reaches the limit mid-batter finishes that batter.
Why it is done, and when it is wrong. Little League replaced innings limits with pitch counts in 2007 because innings did not measure the thing that hurts arms. It is the most consequential youth sports rule change of the last twenty years and it is why a tournament roster needs several arms rather than two good ones.
At Little League and travel ball. Travel organizations vary widely, and some have no limit at all. Knowing which set of rules a given weekend is played under is a genuine safety question, not a paperwork one.
